PUMPKINS! -dayhome

For obvious reasons our day home theme this week was pumpkins!

here are some of our pumpkin themed activities for the week,
We had pumpkins of all sorts and sizes all over the playroom, including some mask! Blake wore this mask for an entire day.
Decorating mini pumpkins! The boys said their pumpkins could fly with their wings, were monsters with lots and lots of eyes and were silly pumpkins.
I found cutting out sugar cookies with toddlers to be not the best activity and it does not last long, you have to quickly pick up the ones they cut out before a-they eat too much dough, and b-they cut over top and over top and there is not much to even pick up. BUT! giving them a ball of dough each at a time and then several bowls of decoration works SO much better, and both times I've done it they have waited until they have decorated quite a few cookies before they start sneaking decorations. and no one has eaten any cookie dough (with the exception of me...)
I let Blake pick out the decorations at the bulk barn, he picked generic candy coated chocolate and candy corn. We also had orange colored sugar crystals and green Sparkles. the cookies looked great!
Until they came out of the oven.....of course candy corn would melt! And generic candy coated chocolates burn in the oven. the insides were gross burnt chocolate.
Mine looked better because I let the boys use all the candy corn.
Another activity that I attempted, unsuccessfully, was carving a pumpkin.  I thought they would love stick their hands in the pumpkin and squeezing the guts in between their fingers and digging for seeds.  But no. Blake, who makes mud if there isn't any in the back yard, was not interested in pumpkin guts. So this was a solo activity. and now i have a hallow pumpkin, I lost interest in carving it when no one would help.
These are the chick cookies Blake made last time.  We used slivered almond and Reese pieces, which worked great!
