child-free weekend!

nic's parents took our kids to the farm for a weekend and it was amazing! friday night we went out to see hit and run, we thought it was hilarious, although must not have gotten good reviews because there was no more then 20 other people in the theater, on a friday night...

saturday night we went out for dinner to celebrate our 7th wedding anniversary, which was monday.

as for the rest of the weekend, mostly i just cleaned. i did go to the mall and try all kinds of clothes on, because i could! i bought a new dress and relaxed, then cleaned, organized, sorted toys, all that really exciting stuff that never seems to get done when you have kids behind you undoing it all!
i also dragged our hideous old couch out, that nic has refused to get rid of. he still has not either noticed or commented, and i somehow managed to bring a desk from the basement up to blake's room. i put his dresser in his closet, took the toddler bed out of his room and put in a desk. his room seems so much bigger now! don't mind the unfinished paintings againing on the wall...
another highlight of the weekend was waking up sunday morning and heading to whoop up where i ran down the westside hill, across the bridge, up the south side hill, then back down that hill, across the bridge, and up the westside hill. it was a big run, i have never run both hills in one run, i've walked and biked but never run, so i felt pretty proud of myself for that run. anyway, so thankful to my inlaws for the wonderful break! glad to have them home again, but so nice to have some time alone with my husband and sometime alone with just me!

a mash-up of activities- DAY HOME

here are some random activities we did that didn't really fall under a theme.

this is a science experiment about sinking and floating. it was pretty cool and the boys were very excited to tell nic all about it.

another water science experiment, you had to carefully place a paper clip on top of the water, if you got it right it would float, if not it would sink. this kept the boys entertained for quite some time~
we did an olympic theme, on day we had a big olympic event in the back yard with hockey, basketball, golf, bean bag toss, bowling and some extra friends. but like i have mentioned before i do not post pictures of my day home children on my blog and they were in all the pictures! but here is blake and kayla showing of the medals they made!

 making worms and dirt!

marble painting, this was really fun!
hail, of course we had to bring some in the house to play with!
of course painting, we love to paint!
 letter pancakes!
blake's master piece.
not sure why blake is shirtless, or these pictures are not in order...we made fruit pizza. side bar- old marshmellows DO NOT work for making rice krispie squares, they don't melt so just throw them away!!
anyway, the boys were very busy cutting up fruit, however because the marshmellow crust took way longer then anticipated blake was the only one still interested when it came to assembling the pizza. it was sooo tastey, i know i ate more then my share!

our science experiments. the book is called water experiments, there is some good ones in there!

pink toes!

just a little bit of my kids!

Blake likes to make faces for the camera and then wants to see the pictures
 another blake face

kayla has discovered her dress up clothes! she especially loves her pink tutu, but why where one when you can wear two!?
of course the babies. there is another one buckled into the other booster seat. she always wants a baby buckled into the van too.

camping!

so we have started an annual camping trip with 3 other couples from university days, this year was out second camping trip and it was awesome! They are the kind of friends that even when you haven't seen each other for a whole year we can just pick up where we left off.

on the road, blake and kayla are diving into the lunch boxes i packed for them.
blake i1n front of our cool new to us tent trailer!
Kayla showing off her super cute purse that auntie Erin made her!

 Blake playing football!
 Oh my! who is that!
Blake loves playing ball with daddy!
Kayla LOVEs  babies, she is always carrying at least one around.
 blake all tuckered out!
this isn't from camping...but, how funny is he!

birthday!! Dayhome

So last year in my day home we had a birthday theme.  The children spent the week planning a birthday party, we went supply shopping, decorated, made a pin-the-tail on the giraffe, made a pinata, made invitations, caked and decorated a cake. This year i have different day home children, and the birthday was such a big success that i decided to do it again! but a little different;

we wrapped presents.

I had a party table set up for dramatic play with party hats, plates, cups, forks, invitations and some fun party dress up clothes.

I had flour and measuring cups, spoons, spatulas, muffins tins, ect in the granular play. it was a mess but a hit!
 Kayla wrapped a present!
 Kayla just LOVED the flour!
 Isn't she pretty!
And now covered had to toe in flour, as you can see this is the second outfit, it was the same day she just got SOO covered, twice.

of course the books!

We also decorated the tree out front with streamers, baked cupcakes and had a birthday party.  The children decorated the cup cakes at the party. it was a hit again!
