random october

Here is just a random collection of pictures from october that i felt the need to blog about.

the picture is a little dark, but if you look closely you can see all the bubbles! my sister and her kids came to stay for a couple days, and kayla and her little cousin adora are just trouble together! they went to the bathroom together to wash their hands and in no time and i sink FULL of bubbles!
how cute is she?! kayla LOVES robert munsch books! i found her reading 'i got to go pee'.  she was sitting on the floor reading, 'got to pee? no no no no no.'
Kayla said it was too hot for pants, but she needed a hat, so one her head went the pants!
Blake has started soccer! he was all ready for his first game, all the kids got jerseys which after every soccer day he asks if he can wear to bed, then usually wears the next day too before throwing in the landaury.  Luckliy he doesnt really sweat, but we will have to break this habbit eventually! the first game was hilarious!! watching 4 year olds play soccer is soo funny!  Blake has a dec birthday, so for school we could choose kindergarden this year or next year, the cut off being dec 31. i decided that why rush him?! so he will start kindergarten next year, but soccer they do not make exceptions! kids are placed with their birth year, end of story. blake is the youngest on his team, and i think it shows! but he loves it! he is happy, and hes not struggling, or the smallest, but the youngest. anyway, his game 2 weeks ago he scored! he was so proud of himself! last week he wanted to play goal, they offered he could come out, but he wanted to be the goalie. so in the net he stoof like a gaint starfish! the ball went right through his legs a few times!! :) oh and blake is in swimming lessons again, last session was a disaster and i eventually gave up, but we worked on swimming with him this summer, and he gained some more confidence in the water and asked if he could take swimming lessons again, and he passed!!
i ordered a few christmas presents from the states, so on our way to pick them up of course we had to stop at the giant dinosaur!
We went to calgary for thanksgiving, and just happened to be at the disney store when they were getting ready for a parade! they gave all the kids masks and had them parade around tche store! it was hilarious! and then the kids were able to decorate a halloween bag and trick or treat to 3 different characters in the store. oh it's just kayla in the pic above, blake was not at the mall with us, and i do not know the random masked children in the pic!
note kayla's skirt. she is my princess! kayla loves to wear these ballet style skirts, she wears a skirt most days, yesterday she had on 2! she loves to dress up and look pretty and wear pink and purple!
a trip to heritage park with auntie erin, uncle blair, adora, milo, auntie karin, and big surprise, uncle allan!! Nic was working so he did not come to Calgary with us, Blake spent pretty much the entire weekend following around uncle Allan!! and uncle allan was a good sport about it! Blake said, 'i love uncle allan!' several times in the weekend blake gave allan random hugs which allan was a little like, 'uh, ok, thanks'.
on the kiddie ferris wheel! i had to ask them to let my kids out first, a mom can recognize their kids pee dance! the staff just looked at me stunned, but let him off first and we made it just in time! i dont know if its a boy thing, or a 4 year old thing, but he just likes to wait until the last possible minute!
Auntie Karin was pretty proud taking the kids on the ride!
Kayla loves daddy's, and since hers was not there, adora's will do!!
this was so cute! karin loves halloween, and decorating for halloween, so she started pulling stuff out and kayla went in to help her, so karin found them each costumes! i think kayla will spend a lot of time hanging out with karin, dancing and dressing up! what could be better then that!

So i am a little bit of a pack rat. i HAD to save my littlest pet shop stuff, and found it at my parents house, now my kids play with it! they love it!
of course when there is snow on the ground there is snow in the house!
ok, we are the worst! kayla was dressed up as the little mermaid for the day, then a butterfly for trick or treating, blake wore his shark costume, and this is the only picture we have from halloween!!
oh side note, i am a bit cheap, i bought him a shark costume, which he loved, last year before halloween for $7! from old navy, anyway, it still fit this year so why would i buy him a new costume? blake REALLY wanted to be spiderman, but i convinced him to be a shark. so anyway, when my day home boy came home from school he was wearing this totally cool spiderman costume!! so blake wanted to be spiderman again, so found his hat and gloves, although after a big debate (the hat was too itchy and i told him he could not trick or treat with out a costume) he was still a shark. poor kid with a cheap mom!
daddy's are so much fun!

Halloween and pumpkins! Dayhome

Over the last 2 weeks of October we explored Pumpkins and Halloween, here are a few things we did!

I took 2 of the children on a field trip to the corn maze, all pictures have day home children in them!
It was a good trip, we saw the petting zoo, the new big huge slide!! and walked to the center of the corn maze and climbed the tower!  The corn maze is lots of fun, but i find it expensive! I was not going to attend this year, my son goes with his preschool, but we ended up tagging along with a moms group which was fun.
 the books,
 orange play dough with faces.

instead of craving pumpkins, which was so NOT a hit last year, we painted pumpkins and put googly eyes on them!

we did 2 different cookies activities over the 2 weeks, this one the children decorated dough and then we cooked it.
then they used icing to decorate cooked cookies.
of course we did alot of dress up!
I also had a water table filled with various sizes of pumpkins and halloween bags, we did a couple different halloween colleges, and made popsicle stick puppets.  We had a Halloween party, and i'm sure other pumpkin and halloween related things!

leaves- DAyhome

Well it appears i am a little behind on the blog again!
Going back to October, after our thanksgiving week we had a week on Leaves. Here is what we did!

so we started the week off with a tree.
i put out supplies, scissors, wrapping paper, tissue paper.

then the children cut out leaves and decorated our tree! I realize this is a bit of a backwards activity for fall, but it was a big hit! the kept coming back to this activity throughout the week.
This did not relate, just an activity my sister told me about. i used medicine droppers, then vinegar and food coloring in an ice cube tray with baking soda in a container.  it was a great activity! i did it in the morning with the 2 year olds and again during nap time with the 4 year olds and it kept ages interested and entertained!
 Decorating leaves.
 my kids!

Of course for leaf week we also went on a couple walks collecting leaves and other items to use for a college, un fortunately we never made our colleges! We were side tracked by other activities and forgot all about them!

Our thanksgiving books from last week.  The problem with doing seasonal themes, is everyone is doing seasonal themes and its pretty slim pickings at the library!  I've been trying to resist ordering books everytime a scholastic order comes my way, because we make such good use of the library! but i decided i can purchase seasonal books as it is so hard to collect them when you want to use them!
Leaf books.
oh and i had leaf cookie cutters in the play dough, and filled the water table with leaves and water.
