thanksgiving!! day home

For the week before thanksgiving i planned activities on a thanksgiving theme.

one day we 'stuffed' turkeys (paper bags and bunched up newspaper)

we did turkey basting measuring
nic made a big leaf pile with the kids one night, then the next morning the day home children joined in on sliding down the slide into the leaf pile! hours of fun!!

 my harvest themed water table.
turkey puppets! i saw somewhere to use gardening gloves to decorate so they could wear them. but since i couldn't find gardening gloves i bought black knit mittens, unfortunately the glue didnt hold to them really well, but the children still enjoyed the craft!
friday i had planned on doing a thankful tree, writing the names of what the children are thankful of and they can make a tree college, but i had early pick ups on friday and we never got around to the activity.

T,U,V,W,X,Y, and Z! day home

all crammed into one week!

T- was towers and tortilla's, we made apple and cinnamon tortillas for snack and built towers.
U, V, X we read books with corresponding letters. cant remember if we had an activities....they were kinda tricky!
W was water play,
Y-yellow college, and yellow toys in the water table.
Z-we made zuccinni cake!  yes i let the children use the grater, and yes it was very closely supervised!

As we did this i took pictures and printed them to put on a board, oh and i see now that for the letter N we did names, i had dotted names made for each of the kids names so they could practice writing names.

So lunch times are crazy at my house, i have really been struggling with the children getting so worked up and crazy instead of eatting.  So i have come up with a solution! i read them books at the table! it calms them down and they listen and eat. so during the alphabet month each day a read a book started with the letter of the day.

O, P, Q, R and S, day home

O- owls! ( we also read, over in the meadow, by jack ezra keats)
we made an owl college, and owl sandwhiches.
of course, this idea came from pinterest!

P- we painted! and had peaches for snack.

Q- we sang the duck song, 'with a quack, quack, quack!'

R-rainbows!
we made a rainbow college, and made rainbow cake, we did the same rainbow cake for st patricks day, it should be on the blog if you want to see the finished product!

S- we went swimming!

J, K, L, M and N Day home

i am not great at keeping up a blog! lets see if i can remember what we did for these letters!

J-had jello for snack and made jewelry.

K was a bit of a stretch, we made kettle corn, and Kings crowns! no pictures of the crowns without the kiddos though!
L- we made Lemonade! (and of course had it with snack)
M- we made masks, and i cant remember what snack was!
i can not remember what we did for N and cant seem to find my planning sheet....

F,G,H and I- Day home

F, G, H and I.

Tuesday, F.
We went fishing at the river stone park, had fruit and freezies for snack, and played with frog feet!
i have no idea how to rotate photos on this blog!
These shoes are hilarious! I got them from super store on summer clearance, they squeek when you step and the little pink tongues stick out. sadly of the 2 pairs, 1 is already missing the tongues.

As i have mentioned before i do not post pictures of the day home children, so there is no pictures from fishing that i can actually post, but they really enjoyed it!

Wednesday is G,
We had a guessing game.  I made a box with a small opening, the children reach in and try and guess what they have grabbed before they pull it out.  I had it filled with things that start with G, glasses, grapes, girls, g.i.joes, giraffe, gorilla, and i few other i can't remember. Again, can not post pictures from this! and of course we had grapes for snack.

Thursday, H!
H is for Heart!
We made heart shaped cupcakes, to try and avoid everyone eatting a lot of icing we had them with strawberries and powdered sugar on top.  The cupcakes were from scratch and i used less sugar then needed, so they actually weren't too terrible of a snack.
our activity was heart hopping. i taped foam hearts to the floor and the children hopped from heart to heart.
Friday, I.
I is for Ice cream!
We made ice cream!  The children added the ingredients, stirred it up and i had them roll up the teddy grahams to make cookie crumbs for cookies and cream ice cream. it was tasty!

ABC's Day home!

In the day home for the last 2 weeks and the coming 3 weeks we have been exploring the alphabet.  Everyday is a different letter and i have planned an activity or 2 that corresponds with the letter and tried to plan a snack as well.

Here is a look at our first week, A, B, C, D and E.

Monday, A!
A is for Alphabet!
We had alphabet puzzles, alphabet stamps in play dough and of course apples for snack!

Tuesday, B.
B is for Beach!
We went to the beach (park lake) had bananas for snack and played ball.

Wednesday, C.
C is for cookies!
We baked cookies, which we ate for snack, and did some (shaving) Cream painting.

Thursday, D.
D is for Dancing!  We danced! sadly i can not post the pictures, but they are awesome!
and we had dirt for lunch! (cookies crumbs on top of our pudding.)

Friday, E.
E is for eggs!
We had eggs in the water table to play with.  E was a tricky one for me, so that was all a came up with!

And of course the books.

next week is F, G, H and I!

child-free weekend!

nic's parents took our kids to the farm for a weekend and it was amazing! friday night we went out to see hit and run, we thought it was hilarious, although must not have gotten good reviews because there was no more then 20 other people in the theater, on a friday night...

saturday night we went out for dinner to celebrate our 7th wedding anniversary, which was monday.

as for the rest of the weekend, mostly i just cleaned. i did go to the mall and try all kinds of clothes on, because i could! i bought a new dress and relaxed, then cleaned, organized, sorted toys, all that really exciting stuff that never seems to get done when you have kids behind you undoing it all!
i also dragged our hideous old couch out, that nic has refused to get rid of. he still has not either noticed or commented, and i somehow managed to bring a desk from the basement up to blake's room. i put his dresser in his closet, took the toddler bed out of his room and put in a desk. his room seems so much bigger now! don't mind the unfinished paintings againing on the wall...
another highlight of the weekend was waking up sunday morning and heading to whoop up where i ran down the westside hill, across the bridge, up the south side hill, then back down that hill, across the bridge, and up the westside hill. it was a big run, i have never run both hills in one run, i've walked and biked but never run, so i felt pretty proud of myself for that run. anyway, so thankful to my inlaws for the wonderful break! glad to have them home again, but so nice to have some time alone with my husband and sometime alone with just me!
