turtles! Day Home

well i have a few ninja turtle crazed children in my day home so I decided to expand on the turtle theme.

turtle matching for different abilities, they could match the colors, letters or spell turtle.
 Making turtle shells!
 kaylas shell

this has nothing to do with turtles, but seriously, how cute is she!

 bottle bottom turtles!

because I could not find enough turtles we added frogs for this activity, floating lily pads,
so there was a box of wipes packages in the playroom...who knew that would be such a fun toy! the children stacked them, lined them up, jumped over them, walked across them and so on!!

green playdough, there was a couple turtle cookie cutters and turtle toys to make turtle shell printings in the playdough
 the completed shells!
 turtle cookies!
 a turtle coloring sheet
im sure there was a few more activities but this theme was from the beginning of September so long since forgotten all we did!

fall/leaves DAYHOME

here are a few activities from our leaves week

well this had nothing to do with leaves, but every little artist should have the chance to paint on a canvas!

coloring leaves and doing leaf printing/rubbing

we went on a little scavenger hunt outside, and then brought our findings home to display in flower vases on the table. The bag of rocks did not make it home however....drop, drop, drop, rip.

leaves and such in the water table

 our collection
 blake painting his canvas
 Blake filling a vase

of course we playing in the leaves! racked a big pile at the bottom of the slide, slid in it, rolled in it, buried each other in it, took pictures!

we also put leaves in the playdough, messy but fun!

cars- DAYHOME

not sure if I meant to add more to this post...just found it unpublished

a little late, but here is more of our car theme.  The drive thru posted earlier also went along with the car theme.

car tracks in play dough, with city maps.
this was a hit!  They came back to the play dough all week.
car track painting! This did not last long, took me longer to set it up and clean it up then they spent painting.

We also taped dye cut vehicles to straws, not sure how we ended up with this activity! I had a bunch of dye cut cars and well, that is what the children decided we should do with them!

dayhome-apples

well it's been a while, but we are going to give the blog thing a try again!

So out on a walk one day the children are collecting pine cones,  when I asked what they are going to do with them my day home child said something along the lines of, 'I'm going to dig them in the ground and they are going to grow into a big apple tree and everyone can pick my apples'

so planning a week around apples seemed like a good idea!
here is a little of what we did:
forgot to rotate pictures again....anyway, here is our apple tree, the kids could add apples as they liked, they just love taping things so this was a fun activity!

cutting apples for baking! there was A LOT of sampling going on!!
 apple print painting
apple crumble pizza we made, oh so good!!
here is an apple counting puzzle I made with fun foam and dye cuts
 apple college
 blake busy working!
 kayla on crazy hair day!
the finished apple tree colleges.  in an attempt to get the children more familiar with letters I have been printing a picture to go with each theme, and every lunch I point out the picture and talk about the letter.

and of course, apple smiles for snack!

flowers and butterflies, DAY HOME

To celebrate spring, and mothers day we did a week on flowers and a week on butterflies.

we have not yet finished all our butterfly activities as we are still waiting the butterflies arrivals!

We have 9 little teeny tiny catepillars above that the children have been watching grow and change!
Here is the flower shop, a cash register and flowers, great fun in dramatic play!
Blake selling his sister some flowers.  There was also aprons and shopping bags included, though they were not really used.

the children added packets of flower seeds to their shop that they got from a birthday party.
here are the cocoons! this process is taking alot longer then i thought it would! we are still waiting for the butterflies to emerge.
We made placemats out of dye cuts and fancy paper, then i laminated them.
our mothers day craft was cards and cup cake wrapper flowers. I did think that there would be a little more decorating of the wrappers, but they were happy with what they created!
Our flower science experiment. We put the flowers in colored water, the baby breathe did not change, but the roses did.  The green was the quickest to change, the orange and blue took longer.

 Books.
Some of the placemats.  I had the children's names in dye cuts, so these are all just Kaylas! She really like this activity!

A few other things we did,
-painted butterflies and hung them from the windows.
-went on a nature walk, collected lady bugs and played with butterfly nets.
-played hide the butterflies with foam shaped butterflies.
-flowers in the water table.
-flower petal college.

I do have a couple activities planned for when our butterflies emerge to celebrate!

oh and Blake and Kayla got to end off butterfly week with a butterfly themed birthday party for Carley!
Heather had a very talented facepainter come! Kayla LOVED her facepainting, and cried when I washed it off the night.
Butterfly wings too!
